About SuZan

fine art photographer

I’m an artist who primarily works in the medium of photography to study subjects that are hidden in plain sight.

My camera becomes the vehicle that allows me to focus on these objects, survey our relationship with those subjects, examine issues of neglect, abandonment, and the tendency to overlook the familiar.

By elevating the importance of these subjects, the images often become a visual exploration of changing landscapes, livelihoods, and ways of life.

My goal is to artfully capture and tell visual stories using a mixture of art, documentary, and a sprinkle of nostalgia. They can evoke memories of sounds, smells, and sights from the recent and distant past.

I am mindful that change is constant and the subjects I record will never again look the way they do in that fraction of a second when the camera shutter clicks. The resulting images document the perpetual state of change.

It is that fleeting moment that allows me to capture a subject in a different way… in a particular light… in its current state or condition… This is just one of the many things that fascinates me about photography.

The resulting images explore new points-of-view and encourages a new perspective of our relationship with familiar subjects that are waiting to be rediscovered.

Wishing you vision for what is hidden in plain sight,
