SEVEN ART EXHIBITS FOR THE SEVENTH MONTH OF THE YEAR - PLUS A BONUS

MuseumMonday.png

As we begin July, seven months into 2018, I thought I would share a list of seven exhibits that may be near where you live, near where you are traveling, or a good excuse to make a trip. I think this collection of exhibits is pretty diverse, so hopefully you will find something you might like.

Forgotten Gateway: Coming to America Through Galveston Island

Where:    Bosque Museum, Clifton, Texas
When:    June 20-July 21, 2018
Overview:    First, let me say this is one of my favorite museums. I was fortunate to see the Lonesome Dove exhibit at the museum and found the volunteers helpful, informative, and the exhibits were displayed and curated with attention to detail. The current temporary exhibit caught my attention (especially after our June Book Club Thursday selection). You can read more details about the Forgotten Gateway exhibit at the referenced Humanities Texas website.

The Guerrilla Girls

Where:    Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas
When:    June 12-September 9, 2018
Overview:    An exhibit of protest art created by a collective of women artists in response to a 1984 exhibit that included a small number of women artists, and no artists of color. This exhibit is a “two for” since Soft Focus (below) is also on exhibit at the Museum.

Multitude, Solitude: The Photographs of Dave Heath

Where:    Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth, Texas
When:    June 12 - September 9, 2018
Overview:    The description of this exhibit is what made me include it in this month’s line up. I certainly can’t write a brief description without plagiarizing, so I’ll suffice to say that it is a collection of images exploring the feelings of loss, alienation, love, and hope.
