STORAGE Bins -TIP TUESDAY

Tips Tuesday.jpg

I love my surroundings to be neat, tidy, and organized. Having said that, I have been on a long, long, long path to organizing my creative life on multiple levels. But the creative clutter... You need what you need, am I right? Sometimes, to be creative, you have to make a mess. In turn, being creative is a messy business.

To make tidiness even more of a struggle, my “studio” is the sun room at the back of our home. The light is beautiful, and the windows also give me a view of all the birds, and other wildlife that find their way into our yard. I love my studio… except, there is no storage, no closet… Moreover, I have an addiction to photo props, and other art supplies, so my studio makes the house appear cluttered since you can see it from most rooms in our home - even the back yard. So, here is my fairly inexpensive solution for getting a lot of these smaller props and supplies corralled and organized: KUGGIS storage bins from IKEA.

The top two images are from “my” IKEA store. These bins are pretty non-descriptive so it is easy to walk past them in the store. The bottom image shows how I label and store them on a shelf in my studio.

I love their sleek, simple, clean design, as well as the different sizes that stack together for a cohesive look. I label my containers using Washi tape and labels from my label maker (obviously, sometimes a little wonky now that I'm looking at the Watercolor Batik label here). The labels help me know just which bin I need to pull out for the current project. That’s just how I roll, but they are pretty sleek looking without the label- if you have less to store and/or a better memory of which container to choose.

I am sure you can think of other ways you could use these bins for storage, so leave a comment. Or, better yet, tell us all how you organize your studio and/or office supplies.
